Director fire system at the Sperry Gyroscope Co., Brooklyn, New York.
Title: Director fire system at the Sperry Gyroscope Co., Brooklyn, New York.
Caption: In the early part of March 1918, a class was instituted for instruction in the Sperry system of fire control, to officers and men detailed from the fleet. This continued for nearly three months until each battleship and cruiser equipped with the Sperry system had sent men for instructions. In the room shown a complete Director Fire System and Nattle Tracer equipment were set up and operated. This picture shows the director fire system with the target bearing transmitter as mounted in the "fighting top" of a ship operating thru the various correcting instruments in the plotting room and giving the true "target bearing" to the instruments in the turret.
