Caption: Photographed in 1929-1930. Bronze replica of wooden figurehead from USS DELAWARE of Tamanend, Chief of the Delaware Indians (d. 1693). Photographed at the Naval Gun Factory where it was cast in 1929, it was presented to the Naval Academy on 31 May 1930 by the Class of 1891. The master pattern maker was W. Crawford and the master molder was J.E. Crown. The pedestal shown was temporary. The wooden statue was used to make the mold. Inside the bronze were placed artifacts, wood from the interior of the head and heart of the original and its arrows, tomahawk and culmet. The figurehead has been incorrectly known by several names, among them Tecumseh.
