Title: USS DELAWARE Figurehead
Caption: Bronze replica of the original wooden figurehead of Tamanend, chief of the Delaware Indians, from USS DELAWARE. The replica was cast on 3 December 1929 at the Naval gun factory from a mold of the original. The bronze was presented to the Naval Academy on 31 May 1930 by the class of 1891. Seen here at the gun factory after the casting are members of the class of 1891. Rear Admiral Arthur L. Willard, superintendent of the factory and commandant, is seen reading.
