Title: Nautical Astrolabe of the 16th Century
Caption: Instrument for determining the altitudes of celestial bodies on the sea. It was a simplification of the astronomical astrolabe, reduced to a metallic sphere with two graduated scales and the alidade for lining up the celestial body. It was employed from the 15th-18th century, although it was less generally used when the forestaff appeared.
