NH 116107 Model of first ICTINEO Submarine.

Model of first ICTINEO Submarine.
Title: Model of first ICTINEO Submarine.
Caption: Model of first ICTINEO Submarine. Original model built under the supervision of Narciso Monturiol. The first ICTINEO was composed of a double wooden hull with strong olive frames and cast bronze studs. The pressure hull had the form of a solid of revolution, and the exterior was fish-shaped, for better stability and less resistance in movement. Its main dimensions were the following; length, 7 m; beam, 2.5m; inside volume, 7 m3; displacement, 8 tons. Submergence was accomplished by flooding four tanks, disposed two on the port side and two on the starboard side. It also had solid emergency ballast which could be released in order to rise to the surface if necessary. On the bow, on the turret, and on the sides it had ports for observation of the bottom. It was propelled by screw, actuated by turning cranks by four men. Received from Museo Maritimo, March 30, 1966.
