Caption: Vera Cruz, 1914. This shows how the rebels heap up the dead for identification purposes, often times allowing them to distintegrate in the hot sun for weeks, the relatives if any come and pick out their dead. Note the by standers holding their noses the odor coming off from these decaying bodies is awful. Original in possession of Lt Comdr, Joseph Y. Dreisonstok. USN.
