Caption: Advanced Terriers Arm Carrier Kitty Hawk. Advanced Terrier Guided Missiles, produced by Convair (Pomona) Division of General Dynamics Corporation, are used on Kitty Hawk, the first U.S. Navy Aircraft Carrier to use missiles in place of conventional anti aircraft guns. Terriers here are shown on another Navy ship. After launching, the Missile separates just behind tail fins. Solid fuel sustainer engines power the missile to target. Advanced terrier is an all weather missile that intercepts aircraft at supersonic speeds many miles from ship. Convair Corporation of General Dynamics Corporation.
