Dryden Jr. pilot of the VP-53 PBY that sank U-156, describes the attack. he signed the submarine 8 miles away and went into a 45 dive, raking it with machine gunfire and dropping four depth bombs from 100 feet. U-156 broke in two in a terrific explosion, leaving an oil slick a quarter mile and 3/4 mile long. A life raft was dropped for survivors. LTJG John E.
