Caption: A late 1850s or early 1860s photograph of (probably) William Nelson who, in the original caption, was nicknamed "Bully". It was taken at Henderson and Company of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. William Nelson served as both a Navy and Army officer. He served as a passed midshipman in the Mexican War, completed a mission for President Lincoln, and was detailed for duty in the United States Volunteer Army as a brigadier general in 1861. He died as a major general on 29 September 1862, shot in an altercation with another general.
