NH 47320-KN "The Last Night of the War"

"The Last Night of the War," oil on canvas by Frederick C. Yohn, depicting the assault across the river Meuse by the Second Battalion, Fifth Regiment, on the eve of the Armistice, 10-11 November 1918. The Marines, commanded by Major Wallice Hamilton, crossed the river on a pontoon bridge into a deadly barrage, and established a bridge-head looking toward the further advancement of the Second Division on Montmedy.
