Description: (Submarine # 38) Exterior conning station and periscopes. These long and short walk-around, five-inch diameter periscopes were both manufactured by the Electric Boat Company and installed in May 1915. The photograph was probably taken at about that time. The unidentified submarine in the immediate foreground appears to have smaller-diameter periscopes, with taller sheers to support them. U.S. Naval History and Heritage Command Photograph.
