Caption: After presentation of silver life-saving medals of the U.S. Navy at a reserve day force celebration at San Diego, California. Welch had fallen overboard, striking his head on the way down, and hit the water unconscious. Arellano dived after him and was able to keep him afloat until assisted by Tandy in completing the rescue.
