Title: USS CAIRO (1862)
Caption: Salvage operations, 1961-1965, in the Yazoo River, Mississippi, where she was sunk by a Confederate mine on 12 December 1862. In lifting slings during salvage operations, August-December 1964. During the lift, a part of the forward casemate, spiders of the paddlewheel, and tip of the stern come into view. Then cables cut into the sides of the boat and CAIRO had to be severed, and lifted in pieces.
