Caption: Being presented a six foot anchor made of poppies by the Veterans of Foreign Wars as a tribute to the officers and men of the Navy and Marine Corps who lost their lives while in service. Also present for the 24 May 1940 ceremony are (to Mr. Edison's left): Lieutenant Charles Weickhardt, USN (retired), Admiral Harold R. Stark, USN Chief of Naval Operations, General A.A. Vandergrift, USMC Commandant, USMC, Captain Randall Jacobs, USN. The floral anchor would be used in Naval Academy Memorial Day ceremonies.
