Caption: Is hit by a white phosphorus bomb during bombing experiments at San Marcos Proving area, Chesapeake, Maryland, 23 September 1921. Bombing was conducted by Army Air Corps bombers. At left are the wrecks of USS SAN MARCOS (EX TEXAS) and USS INDIANA (BB-1). Both were expended in previous ordnance experiments.
