Dixon, Aviation Chief Machinist Mate, survivors of a 34-day rubber raft voyage of 750 miles to Pukapuka Island after their torpedo plane from USS ENTERPRISE splashed and sank, March 1942. The officer behind and to the right of Admiral Nimitz is Vice Admiral William F. Halsey, USN. The ship was at Pearl Harbor for the ceremony.
