Title: Insignia, patch: USS WOODROW WILSON (SSBN-624)
Caption: Insignia adopted in 1963. It resulted from a contest held in that year and was the design of Antonin Dooroff, an artist at the Mare Island Navy Yard. The insignia was chosen from several entries by a vote of the crew of the WOODROW WILSON. This insignia features the name and hull numbers of the ship as its central features. Also central in the design is Polaris, the North Star, surrounded by the golden trident of Neptune, God of the Sea. Sharing the shield with the ship's hull number are the gold dolphins of the submarine force. The shield is set on a background of blue waves.
