NH 64696-KN Insignia: Service Squadron Eight

Insignia: Service Squadron Eight
Title: Insignia: Service Squadron Eight
Caption: This insignia was adopted in 1967, replacing the insignia represented by NR&L (M) 40200KN. The new design was chosen in an open contest within SERV RON Eight and was the result of a collaboration between Lieutenant V. C. McGee Jr. and Yeoman Third Class S. B. Ridder. Symbolically, it shows a Navy anchor and the pennant of COM SERV RON Eight. It was felt that the design of the previous insignia was cluttered as a result of an attempt to show all the squadron's missions by individual symbols. It was therefore hoped that the simplicity of the new design would preclude any necessity for future revision. Date of Photo: 1967.
