NH 64773-KN Insignia: USS LA SALLE (LPD-3)

Insignia: USS LA SALLE (LPD-3)
Title: Insignia: USS LA SALLE (LPD-3)
Caption: This insignia was adopted in 1964. The upper right of the shield bears the charges of the coat of arms of the explorer Rene Robert Cavalier De La Salle, a gold eight pointed star and a silver rabbit. Despite the fact that the animal figure does not look much like a rabbit, it duplicates the animal on the coat of arms. The fort in the lower left is representative of Fort St. Louis, built by La Salle in 1682 on the edge of the Illinois River. Today the city of La Salle, Illinois, stands there. The background anchor symbolizes the Navy and the sea. The motto is appropriate for the LPD: "Versatility at sea."
