Insignia: USS WHIPPOORWILL (MSC-207)
Title: Insignia: USS WHIPPOORWILL (MSC-207)
Caption: This insignia was adopted in 1965. It was originally designed by Lieutenant Junior Grade Reilling, former X/O of the WOODPECKER, and adopted with minor modifications. The shield identifies the ship as part of the U.S. fleet. The three stars identify it as a unit of Mine Squadron Three. The curvature of the base of the blue field depicts the wake of a minesweeper in a turn, with gear streamed. The color scheme symbolizes safe (blue) and mined (red and white) waters.
