Caption: Crewmen of the EAGLE carrying mail sack on a flagpole at Manati, Cuba, in 1917. At that time, shortly after the U.S. entry into World War I, the ship's crew was helping to guard a local sugar mill. The civilian in the photograph was an engineer who was doing survey work with the EAGLE. Photographed by Mr. John G. Krieger, who was a machinist's mate on the USS EAGLE, and donated by him in 1967.
