Insignia: USS AUSTIN (LPD-4)
Title: Insignia: USS AUSTIN (LPD-4)
Caption: This insignia was adopted in 1964, and provides a constant reminder of the ship's historical links and of her role in modern amphibious war. The single star symbolizes the association of the name Austin with the history of Texas. The color scheme has been adopted from that of the seal of the city of AUSTIN. The fort represents the Alamo and also the strength added to the fleet by the USS AUSTIN. The cross, flanked by wings, indicates faith in AUSTIN's role in vertical envelopment operations. The lamp is a reminder of the necessity for eternal vigilance. The motto, translated "Seapower through Mobility," represents AUSTIN's ability to rapidly deliver combat ready troops almost anywhere in the world.
