Title: Insignia: Submarine Squadron Fifteen
Caption: Conceived and designed by Lieutenant Commander Glen A. Snell, USN, and adopted in 1964. This insignia symbolizes SUBRON 15's motto and purpose: the achievement of "Freedom through strength." The hammer and anvil of the God Thor symbolized power and speed for the forging of security and freedom. The submarine dolphin thrusting up a Neptune's trident represents the Polaris motto: "From the depths, seapower." The constellation Ursa Major, the star Polaris, and the number 15 identify SUBRON 15 with its Polaris mission. The torch of freedom indicates that SUBRON 15 is defending freedom for mankind. The insignia was received from SUBRON 15 in 1968. Date of Photo: 1968.
