NH 65226-KN Insignia: USS PROTEUS (AS-19)

Insignia: USS PROTEUS (AS-19)
Title: Insignia: USS PROTEUS (AS-19)
Caption: This insignia was adopted in 1960. The tridents in the design symbolize the heritage derived from the ship's namesake, Proteus, mythical Greek God of the seas. The Polaris missile and electron symbol denote the mission of the PROTEUS: SSBN support. The three stars in the corners were originally intended to further represent the three words of the ship's motto, but have now come to represent the achievement of the PROTEUS in establishing all three Polaris replenishment sites: at Holy Loch, Scotland; Rota, Spain; and Guam. Received from the ship in 1968. Date of Photo: 1968.
