NH 65261-KN Insignia: USS ANGLER (AGSS-240)

Insignia: USS ANGLER (AGSS-240)
Title: Insignia: USS ANGLER (AGSS-240)
Caption: This insignia was adopted in 1953, when ANGLER was recommissioned as an SSK. The central figure is the fierce angler fish wearing sonar headphones, indicating the long-range capability of the BQR-4A sonar array. The ANGLER is carrying the weapons of a hunter of the sea-- the harpoon, and the torpedo. Although ANGLER was redesignated an AGSS in 1964, the basic insignia was retained inasmuch as the long-range sonar capability was still a major factor in her primary role as a training vessel. The patch was received from the ship in 1968. Date of Photo: 1968.
