Caption: This insignia was adopted in 1963 and was chosen from designs submitted by her pre-commissioning crew. It symbolizes HOLLAND's role in supporting the SSBN program. It features the HOLLAND and an SSBN linked together by their mutual weapon, Polaris. These figures are mounted on a background of a globe, representing the world-wide mobility that HOLLAND will help the Polaris submarines maintain. The Latin motto is translated: "Polaris for peace". Colors used are those of the U. S. flag. Date of Photo: 1968.
