Title: Insignia: Mine Squadron Three
Caption: Insignia adopted in 1964. Its design symbolizes the nature and mission of Mine Squadron Three (MINRON 3). The shield, in the national colors, represents the role of the Navy as protector of the United States. The mine on the shield symbolizes MINRON 3's principal function of hunting and neutralizing mines, thus protecting the Navy. The motto, "we clear the way," further expands this theme of protecting the fleet. Crossed anchors point out the sea-going nature of the squadron's vessels. Photographed in 1968.
