NH 65389-KN Insignia: USS COVE (MSI-1)

Insignia: USS COVE (MSI-1)
Title: Insignia: USS COVE (MSI-1)
Caption: This insignia, adopted in 1960, was selected in a shipboard design contest. The orange ball in the background represents the rising and setting sun, and symbolizes the job of the MSI in sweeping mines from dawn to dusk. The dark blue border around the sun indicates that minesweeping often continues into the night as well. The sketch of the ship depicts the COVE's character: a small, sturdy, tenacious minesweep worrying a mine, much as a small terrier worries a bone. The motto "some bigger" implies that there are some bigger minesweepers, but that none are better! Photographed in 1968.
