Caption: Unprotected cruiser; class with MONTGOMERY and MARBLEHEAD. Built at Baltimore, Maryland, steel, 2094 tons displacement, by Columbian Iron Works for U. S. Navy. In 1894, assigned to Asiatic Station. Based at Key West during Spanish-American War. Protective service at Nicaragua and Venezuela in 1899. Decommissioned at Boston in 1905 and sold in 1911. Pen and ink drawing by Samuel Ward Stanton.
