Title: Insignia: USS ETHAN ALLEN (SSBN-608)
Caption: This insignia is a composite of numerous designs submitted by the ship's crew during the latter part of 1960. Its mountain and crossed long rifles represent Colonel Ethan Allen and his "green mountain boys" of Revolutionary War fame. The submarine, missile, and atomic symbol point out the ship's Polaris mission and her nuclear powerplant. The colors blue and gold signify the ETHAN ALLEN's alternate "blue" and "gold" crews.
