Caption: This insignia was received from the ship in 1968. It features symbols representing honor, bravery, and sea power. The hawk above the shield is the symbol of bravery, its head turned to the right indicates that it is a "war hawk." The red and blue of the shield are the colors of courage and honor. The blue diagonal indicates that DD-841 is the second USS NOA. Her predecessor, DD-343, is also represented in the band below the shield. The stars have no specific meaning.
