Caption: This insignia was adopted in 1968. Its central theme is the minuteman, whose actions at Concord in 1775 marked the formal beginning of the War of Independence. The minuteman is also symbolic of the ship's readiness to serve the fleet and nation. The sixteen links of chain represent the sixteen cities in the United States that are named Concord. The five U.S. Navy ships named CONCORD are symbolized by the five golden stars.
