Title: Insignia: USS JOHN KING (DDG-3)
Caption: This plaque was received from the ship in 1968. Its circular shape represents continuity, while the two torches stand for knowledge. The white shield with the red cross symbolizes chivalry and courage. The two stars in one quarter of the shield represent the two Medals of Honor awarded to Chief Water Tender John King. The crown opposite the stars is symbolic of his last name. Note motto: "Power for peace."
