Title: Insignia: USS EPPING FOREST (MCS-7)
Caption: Insignia adopted in 1962-63, upon the ship's conversion to MCS-7. It was chosen in a shipboard contest and is the design of Terrence Ogden GMG3, USN. The eagle in the emblem symbolizes The Nation and also The EPPING FORREST's Mission as flag and support ship to the smaller minesweepers. The star behind the numeral seven, represents the ship's mobility. The old English Script in the border suggests the background of her name: The VIRGINIA Birthplace of George Washington 's mother, which was in turn named for an old Estate in England.
