Caption: Being launched, 3 October 1925. At the time she was the longest vessel in the world, the biggest ship ever constructed in this country and the fastest vessel afloat (destroyers excepted). She was launched at the Fore River Yards, Quincy, Massachusetts. Mrs. Theodore D. Robinson, wife of the Assistant Secretary of the Navy was sponsor.
