NH 69126 Mothballed destroyers

Mothballed destroyers
Title: Mothballed destroyers
Caption: About 100 destroyers in mothballs at the Philadelphia Navy Yard, April 1923. As convoys to the troopships through the submarine zones they proved more than a match for the enemy submarines, and played an important part in the record made by the Navy in transporting the Army. When in commission, each carried about 115 men and 7 officers. One of the ships identified is USS ELLIS (DD-154).
