Title: USS EAGLE 1 (PE-1)
Caption: The U.S. government placed an order for 125 "Eagle boats" with the Ford company of Detroit. These boats had a solid cement bow, especially built for ramming and sinking submarines. They were equipped with 4 inch guns on the bow and stern and also carried depth charges. Here Eagle 1 nears completion, circa 1918. Commanded by Captain Joyce, USN; she was ordered to Archangel, Russia, for an indefinite period.
