Caption: This emblem (seen here as an embroidered insignia patch) represents the detachment's operations in early 1966, when it was assigned to rescue duty in the Tonkin Gulf. The symbol in the lower left is a characterized rescue sling. The "C" in it represents combat rescue, while the numeral IX indicates the number of recoveries made under fire. During this deployment, the detachment operated from the DLGs COONTZ, ENGLAND, WORDEN, and BAINBRIDGE.
