NH 70331-KN Insignia: USS WHITEHALL (PCE-856)

Insignia: USS WHITEHALL (PCE-856)
Title: Insignia: USS WHITEHALL (PCE-856)
Caption: This emblem, adopted in 1965, was designed with the assistance of Mr. Anthony W.C. Phelps of Cleveland, Ohio. The silver surface of the shield was chosen with reference to the ship's name (silver and white are synonyms in heraldry) while the blue flaunches symbolize her previous service in the Atlantic and Pacific. The helmets were adapted from the arms of the English Whitehall family, and further represent the ship's military service. The flaming torch symbolizes her present operational readiness and mission of training naval reservists.
