NH 70350-KN Insignia: USS WHITFIELD COUNTY (LST-1169)

Insignia: USS WHITFIELD COUNTY (LST-1169)
Title: Insignia: USS WHITFIELD COUNTY (LST-1169)
Caption: This emblem was adopted in 1960 (seen here as an embroidered insignia patch), when WHITFIELD COUNTY was first home-ported at Yokosuka, Japan. The Japanese torii represents this home port, while the figure of the ship sailing beneath it symbolizes the many times she has left Yokosuka for the sea. The symbol of Mount Fuji in the background reflects the ship's quest for perfection in her activities. The chain surrounding these figures reemphasizes the bond between the ship and Japan. The Latin motto is translated: "execute amphibious invasions."
