Title: VOUGHT VE-7s
Caption: Single seat fighter version of two-seater VE-7S, landing on board USS LANGLEY (CV-1) circa 1927. The marking "6-F-16" worn under the lower wig identifies it as assigned to fighting squadron 6 (VF-6). Note: the primitive tail hook, as well as the longitudinal- arresting-wire hooks on the main landing gear axle. The British-designed hydro vane forward of the main wheels was intended to keep the plane from nosing over in case of an emergency water landing.
