Title: Shipboard life
Caption: Keel-hauling , the seaman's punishment, in which the delinquent was taken under the main yard, and his feet loaded with a 30- pound cannon ball. The master-at-arms then read the sentence, and the criminal was suddenly drawn up by a side tackle attached to the main yard. The rope was then slacked, and he was plunged with the frightful velocity into the sea and then drawn under the keel.
