NH 71133 Shipboard life

Shipboard life
Title: Shipboard life
Caption: When the mizen-sail was braced aback it drove the ship backwards but turned the stern to leeward, so that the ship was said to luff or bear to windward. Center view shows the ship with its sails shortened to ride a storm. The sails are reefed, the tacks and sheets are slackened, and the clew lines and leech-lines are hauled in. Right view shows the changing from one tack to another, which required that the ship be turned.
