NH 73570 Philippine Invasion, 1941-1942.

Philippine Invasion, 1941-1942.
Title: Philippine Invasion, 1941-1942.
Caption: Fires burning on Cebu, as it is occupied by Japanese forces, April 1942. Copied from the Japanese book: "Philippine Expeditionary Force," published in 1943. Original Japanese caption: "One part of the city can be seen in flames. The tongues of the flames lick at the sides of the buildings and soon the bricks come crumbling down on the streets. The trees on the sides of the roads become a pyre of flames and appear like fire gods standing solemnly amidst the inferno. The burning telephone poles lean against the buildings and the telephone wires melt and flow on the streets. Trees and buildings obstruct our view on the road of our advance, but what we can see is a mass of flames. The rolling flames seem to beckon to us."
