Caption: With his fiancée, Miss Sarah C. McKillop, at Boston, Massachusetts, in March 1942. He was killed in action on board the German blockade runner KARIN on 10 March 1943, while serving as a member of a boarding party from USS EBERLE (DD-430). USS WILLIAM J. PATTISON (DE-594, APD-104) is named in his honor. Miss McKillop was the ship's sponsor.
