Title: EUROPA (Italian seaplane carrier, 1895-1920)
Caption: "The EUROPA (Royal Italian Navy), for transportation of hydroplanes and a mother ship for submarines." Probably photographed soon after conversion from a merchant ship to a seaplane carrier in May 1915. The two single 3-inch anti-aircraft guns carried by the ship are not yet mounted in this view. As a merchant ship, she had carried the names MANILA, SALACIA, and QUARTO. Received by Navy Department Operations, Aviation Department, July 1919.
