Caption: Photographed circa 28 April 1918, and shows the bent base of the periscope which had been sheared off when the submarine was rammed by a steamer as it was preparing for a submerge torpedo attack. Note conning tower details, and bright circular disk (A recognition mark for Austrian Aviators). Seated officer is LT. Johann de la Fontaigne.
