Caption: Probably photographed off Portsmouth in the Spring of 1886, immediately after completing a refit in which the armament was modified and the conning towers altered. The original print was made by Symonds and Co. of Portsmouth and obtained by the U.S. Navy Office of Naval Intelligence in about 1890.
