Description: (SP-1259) At Boston, Massachusetts, circs 1917, with the SP number of another Grayling (SP-552) erroneously painted on her bow. USS Apache (SP-729) is among the other Section Patrol boats visible in the background. Grayling (SP-1259) was commissioned on 22 May 1917 and returned to her owner, E.E. Gray, on 30 November 1918. Grayling (SP-552) was to have been delivered for Naval service on 18 August 1917 but was not actually taken over by the Navy. A copy of this photograph in National Archives' Record Group 19-LCM has had the boat's bow number corrected to 1259 in ink. U.S. Naval History and Heritage Command Photograph.
