Caption: Preparing ships for war in 1941. The largest ship visible is probably USS LEONARD WOOD (AP-25), converting from an Army transport. The next largest is probably USS HAMUL (AK-20), converting from a merchantman. Also in the photo are five destroyers afloat, probably USS SWANSON, USS INGRAHAM, USS MAYRANT, USS TRIPPE, and USS RHIND (DD-443, DD-444, DD-402, DD-403, and DD-404), and four on building ways, probably USS CORRY, USS HOBSON, USS BEATTY, and USS TILLMAN (DD-463, DD-464, DD-640, and DD-641). The photo, taken at 1000 feet, was dated 24 July 1941 and was probably taken slightly earlier.
